You've entered THE VQ (EW) ENLISTED CLUB....
AHH, a page for aircrew and groundpounder personnel! Any suggestions for what you would like to see can be sent to LT Anthony "Punisher" Vivona: punnyshre@us.hsanet.net.
Additionally, please send email concerning news, stories, events, and any personal info I may use to update the page.
Yes, you too should take a look at the traits of REAL CHIEFS. You might as well know their secrets, eh?
And here are some current happenings in the VQ (EW) Continuum....
Postings for JUL 99
- Email Scam Alert! In late July, most VQ survivors were mass emailed about some major scam involving former foreign military officers with money to "invest" in U.S. interests. DO NOT BELIEVE IT. By this time, both NCIS and the FBI have been notified. The reference the the VQ Survivors' Pages was obviously taken without my permission or awareness. Let your friends and peers know about internet predators and be alert for any similar scams. LT Anthony "Punisher" Vivona
- OK, with TPS behind me, it's time to get back back to work with a HUGE page update. And Vicky assures me that a "new look" is in order, once all the data is up to date. Stay tuned! LT Anthony "Punisher" Vivona

Postings for JAN 99
- From "The Punisher" on 18 JAN 99:
"Yes, in case you've noticed, my updating has been rather sporadic in the past few months. 100% my fault. Between getting married last year, finishing my MSEE at PG School, PCSing to Pax River, buying/building a new house, and trying not to fall behind at the Navy Test Pilot School, my time to stay current on the pages has suffered somewhat. But be assured that I will continue to update the pages more regularly, especially after TPS graduation in JUN 99. Stay tuned...."
Ed "Fast Eddie" Ward writes:"I am currently a project lead for particular mission systems on EP-3E SSIP and ES-3 at Raytheon Systems, Indpls,IN. My oldest son is a "Firstie" at the Academy and wants to become a "VQ" NFO. Lord help us!"

I will of course keep ya'll posted. I am really looking forward to the change and the challenge of being out. I mean, hell, how many millions of people make it outside the military?"

- "My name is Michael DiLeva and I served with VQ-2 in Rota between 1963 &
1966. I was an Operator on both the EC-121M and the EA-3B. I was an
AT-3 and am interested in locating other members of the squadron.
I have located several other old members of VQ-2 and we are
trying to set up a reunion next year in Tenn. The person organizing the
effort is Jim Armao."
You can find both organizers on the Master VQ Email Lists.
- Steve "Gopher" Govus sends:
"Interesting to find the VQ-1&2 page. I was with the squadron in 1967-69, a
typical two year tour of duty. Rated as AM(E)-2, I am probably one of the few of
that rating to be issued a M-14, M-16, M-2, and M-79. I flew occasionally in
A-3's. Worked on just about every part of the A-3, and lots of the EC-121.
Went on to VAH-10 on the Hancock---discharged April 1970. I used the GI Bill
to get most pilot ratings, and flew commercially for 12 or so years. I now
own a small manufaturing business here in beautiful North Carolina.
Here's to all the guys who were at Danang!"
- ATCS (Ret) Ron "Helix" Foster can
presently be found working for Raytheon E-Systems in Pensacola, FL.
- Mark "Swish" Swisher sends:
"You know it's a small world. There are six former VQ-2ers that work in
F-16 Final Assembly and Delivery. We hope to keep putting out the best
product possible for you all in the Fleet. When I was leaving the Q, the
Sylvania Rep wished me luck and I asked him who he was. All those years
flying and troubleshooting late at night and I never once got any help
from him. I said to myself, if I ever become a Rep, I'm going to take care
of the men in blue. Well, I did for the F-16 and we supported bases in
Europe, Asia and Stateside. Not only was I a Rep, but I supervised
them. Man, my guys never saw someone like me. They put in long hours
right along with the GI's and didn't go home until the ship was fixed. So,
if you ever get to fly an A/C that came out of Fort Worth, I guarantee
the guys who helped build it put a little more into it cause we've been
there!"
- Tim "Gorf" Gorman can now be found at United Arlines
in San Francisco. He started with them in May 1986, and now it looks like he will

project.

for his fourth and final VQ-1 tour.
Posting from Maine: "You know what happens when you get out of the Navy and you want to become
a reservist???? You have a spine-removal and turn into a black shoe. (Oh no, not that!)
Former AT1 Rick Harris is now GM1 Rick Harris.
So now the master EWOP is now a master Swabby."
- AT1 Jim "Huggy-Bear" Morton has extended for a year up in Brunswick.
He decided staying stateside for another year would good for him so he could finish up his schooling.
Besides the "cool squadron" up there sort of likes him and hates to see him go.
- ADC (Ret) Dave "Tony" Woody, former VQ-1&2 Flight Engineer,
is doing well in the civilian sector:
"I currently work for Boeing and have helped a couple of prior VQ buddies
who are also retired get a job with Boeing. I am currently a QA inspector on the 777.
I love what I do, but truly miss pushing power levers.
As far as I'm concerned that is the best job an enlisted man can have."

- Rick "Ace" Scott sends: "I need some help and the VQ page is my place to start
(along with Al's Whale page). I contacted our Museum of Flight about
getting a whale here. Since on my first tour I was a EC-121 and the EA
Crewman the whale has always had a place in my heart. Well sure enough,
You ask---you get the job. So I'm looking for a restorable/transportable
whale. Since I flew EA-3B's I would prefer to find one of those (Minus
the "Interior Enhancements" and "Canoe Occupants," of course) to be
added. An EKA or KA or RA would be OK, but an EA is
tops on my list. If there is anyone you can put me in contact with for
the NAVY/VQ or what ever about obtaining one for the Museum or the
general word out. I would much be appreciated."
- Ruben "Ash" Munoz can now be found in Los Angeles, CA, where he is firefighter.

"You all will probably remember me easiest by the nickname I got on
one of our dets. "Tater" was the nickname and shooting taters is
the game. I finally got one going and it became quite the big hit in Spain.
They really don't understand the concept, though. At one party, I had it and
they were saying, " Why do you shoot all those good potatoes---they would
make such good tortillas." Well anyway, I'm over at Pax River on det for
the new airplane. We haven't got the aircraft yet but we're trudging thru alot
of schooling."
- AD1 Kim (Lorena) "R.F." Ryan-Fernandez has orders as FE instructor at VP-30 starting NOV 97.

Namtragrudet JAX, teaching avionics to groundpounders and IF's on the
