The Ready Room Archive
And now for the older news---previously posted on The Ready Room Page.
Older Archive News....
- Clay "No-Lo" Christensen got out of the navy in March. Seems that he landed a job at Anderson Consulting in Minnesota. He requests that anyone finishing their time in the service contact him to put you in touch with the job recruiters. Good luck "No-Lo", we'll miss flying with "The Love Crew"....
- Stuart "Stu-Bob" and Kari Gaudet are now in Falls Church, VA. Now the Project Manager for the Story Teller and Story Book programs as part of the ES-3A SSIP, he sends news to/about the VQ continuum---Read the Stu-Bob Report!
- If you have not seen it yet, VQ-2's European Future, compliments of LCDR Bill "Zen" Schmidlin, is here. Take a look and send your comments, please---it's worth the read---whether you are for or opposed to a move from Spain for the squadron. It's also linked from the Survivor Main Page.
- Rick "Fridge" Fridley is definitely enjoying the civilian life these days. He's now working for TASC (The Analytic Sciences Corporation) in Reston, VA.
- Vince "Lemieux" and Linda "Lynn" Nagy are enjoying the civilian life in Denver, CO. Vince has been with United Airlines since leaving VQ-2, and is now upgrading to the "right seat" on the 727 this fall. Woo-Hoo! Lynn is also working full-time, managing a local antique store.
- LT Mike "Kid" and Mila Wesson are happily settling into Jacksonville, FL life. "Kid" just finished the C-9 FRS and relishes his future in the Navy TAR community.
- LCDR Bill and Eileen Beaumont send greetings from Albequerque, NM! Bill is currently working at Joint Theatre Missile Defense Attack Operations at Kirkland AFB.
- Laine "Auburn" and Jay "Rotors-To-Jets" Thomas are doing well. Looks like Jay is going to United Airlines, as well. He's dropped his letter, and should start with UAL in APR/MAY/JUN time frame. Laine is busy trying to get into physical therapy school, and is taking Masters classes in the interim. And baby J.R. is almost as heartbroken as Daddy Jay over the sale of their Harley-Davidson Dyna Wide-Glide Motorcycle in JAN 97....
- LCDR Bill "Zen" Schmidlin has been computer tinkering again. Apparently, a P133 processor is not enough, and he took the next step by replacing the motherboard to his Gateway system with a much faster one---increasing the bus speed significantly. He writes: "The only way to have a top-notch system is to build it yourself from scratch." With his recent purchase of a P166MMX chip (clocking at 208MHz in his turbo-charged motherboard!), Soundblaster 64 and Orchid 3D accelerator, NOBODY will be able to outdo him!
- George "Windsock" Womack sends greetings from CINCPACFLT! After previous tours at VQ-1&2 (as well as that "cool squadron") he is presently the Fleet SRO/VQ Requirements Officer (N338) at CINCPACFLT.
- Chris "Teddy" and Sheelah Kennedy are headed for Leavenworth---to the War College, that is! Yes, they should be Kansas-bound by mid-summer.
- Patrick "Harv" Garvey has submitted his papers to start his civilian career. He finishes his Masters in Public Policy at Duke University in May, hoping to utilize his new degree in the DC area. He'll probably be released from service in August.
- Ross "Special" Wilhelm is back online and now at VQ-1 as the N-9 Department Head (VQ-1 SSIP/Special Installations Management Officer)---heading up the SSIP effort. Obviously, he did such an exceptional job in N9 (SPROJ) at Rota, that they want him to do it again!
- John "Jack" Gough enjoyed his stint as MO at VQ-1, and is already on the boat! Yes, he's the new 7th Fleet Staff EWO Officer....
- News Flash: "Another Post Graduate School Student Misses The Boat"! No really, Barb "Barbi" and Kitt Burgett have just received orders to the Military Sealift Command in Naples, Italy. They will be packing the two munchkins, Kiera and Rhys this spring to report to her new command in April of 1997.
- Well, as Bill "Shama Lama" Ringer has said,"Darn the bad luck. Guess there's one less VQ-type to send to the boat." Yes, Bill has just successfully transitioned to AEDO and shall be reporting to Pax River, MD as the P-3 ASPO when he finishes at NPS next October.
- Gary "Fletch" and Missy Fletcher are in Texas! "Fletch" is now a T-34 instructor at VT-28 in Corpus Christi, TX.
- Now THIS is TOO good to pass unnoticed! Karin "KK" Klose ---yes, she's still at NRL---just got a collateral job as a "White House Social Aide." The job consists of showing up at
social functions in SDW/SDB's and showing the flag for the military, ala Kevin Kostner in "No Way Out." Her first
function, and I swear I am not making this up, was the "Hillary Rodham Clinton Fan Club Tea Party." Although extremely difficult to do so, the editor shall refrain from any commentary on the value of the existence of such a "fan club" and it's place in modern society. The job itself, with the obvious exception of certain events, could prove to be interesting, though.
- So, John "JV" Vinson has completed his command tour at VQ-2, and it's been busy, busy, busy ever since. After change of command on 2 SEP 96---good luck to CDR's Rob "Prince of Darkness" Leeds and Rufus "Syd" Abernathy on their taking over command---he's been at warp-speed getting setup in DC. JV is now at the Industrial College of the Armed Forces (ICAF, at National Defense University) in DC. The family is all moved in---the kids are all back in school---and getting settled. So JV, how about donating your Jag to the JO's of VQ-2 (or VQ-1, if I get orders there next) as a det-mobile? Whatta' you say?
- Larry "Bud" Ninas accepted orders to DIA and started in October.
- And look who's coming to Naval PostGraduate School! In January, John "Thai" Harber arrived for the curriculum of National Security Affairs, joining fellow VQer LT Michele "Hobby" Choyke in that program. Yeah, Thai-man, you'll see a lot of the beach! In the following quarters, Raymond "Noodles" Tortorelli, Travis "Travigator" Trupp, Jen "Tigger" Moss and Bill "Howie" Monday will be coming to NPS. Any EE's out there? You can have MY slot! Really......
- Now Kirk "Kirky" White has made the big move! With his Harvard undergrad degree and navy experience in pocket, he has just moved to Mountain View, CA to start Stanford Law School in the Fall. Is it too late to change to engineering, Kirky?
- Continuing the VQ-legacy and despite missing the squadron-life, Mike Wilcox has settled into his job at the Joint Airborne SIGINT Program office in Dayton, Ohio, as the IPT lead for Platform Integration. Flyers will see/use direct results of his work in the coming years. Debbie has also started working, and Holly started kindergarten in the fall of 1996.
- Dave Evans seems to have landed himself a very unusual and interesting shore tour to follow VQ-2. He's in DC to work for the OPEN SKIES division of the On Site Inspection Agency. Not your typical post-VQ orders, but sounds VERY interesting, with lots of world-travel. Hey, I'm jealous---maybe after Post Grad School....
- Sean Bergesen has started his DH tour at VQ-6. (Sean also published a Tactical EW article in July's PROCEEDINGS, discussing ES-3A merits---check it out.) His wife Angela is still doing the craft workshops and works part-time at the Marriot. Christina and Jessica, ages 7 and 5, are also keeping Sean and Angela busy....
- Cathy Donohue has left her DC orders early to take orders to Naval Test Pilot School. Naval Astronaut next, eh Cath?
- George "Jorge" Richardson left active duty and entered the reserves on 01 May 96. Looks like he's entered the world of high-finance at an American investment bank in London: Goldman-Sachs. Jorge ensures his avid fans that he loves his new job, although I DID hear a humorous story about his first day on the job....
- As of 07 JUN 96, CDR Glenn "High Noon" Stockton took over the helm at VQ-1, with CDR Kevin "Stretch" Ketchmark starting his year as XO. And may I quote from a member of their wardroom: "The future looks bright for NFO's at VQ-1." With LCDR's Abernathy and Hamill both going to VQ-2 for command tours now, I've been informed that the recently screened
LCDR Mike Paul will follow CDR Ketchmark as CO at VQ-1....
